Offering veterinary students the opportunity to participate in mentor-guided research for animal health science is the driving force behind a scholarship program. Offered by the Morris Animal Foundation, the Veterinary Student Scholar program provides veterinary students in good standing at accredited veterinary medicine programs with a stipend of up to $5,500 to pursue a research project under the guidance of a mentor. “We are thrilled to support students from veterinary schools worldwide at this pivotal stage in their careers,” says Kathy Tietje, PhD, MBA, chief program officer at Morris Animal Foundation. Around 600 students have participated in the program since it started in 2015. “Research is the gateway to understanding and innovation,” says student scholar Dennis Ronzani in the statement released by the foundation. “The Morris Animal Foundation Veterinary Student Scholar program allows young minds, like myself, to learn and practice the methods that make proficient research.” The students selected for the program are: Annalise Cavender, Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine Boaz Pkemoi, The University of Nairobi Kenya, Kenya Jack Friend, University College Dublin School of Veterinary Medicine, Ireland Estefania Benavides, University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine Savell Robinson, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University Courtney Hegwer, Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine Caro Wilson, University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine Bipin Basyal, Tribhuvan University, Nepal Dennis Ronzani, Ross University of Veterinary Medicine, Saint Kitts and Nevis Yeonsoo Choi, University of Bristol Veterinary School, United Kingdom Madilyn Kriskovich, Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine Bashunga Niyomukiza Laurence, University of Rwanda College of Agriculture, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Rwanda Laurie Boucher, University of Montreal, Canada Camila Felisa Chacón, National University of Littoral, Argentina Christina Kandane Arachige Don, Utrecht University, Netherlands Marianne Caudron, University of Montreal, Canada Zack English, Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences Shelly Lownds, St. George's University School of Veterinary Medicine, West Indies Miranda Michlanski, Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine Tyler O'Brien, Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine Gabriella "Gabby" Balaa, University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine Sally Carnevale, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University Faith Yang, University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine Marie Clarisse Mutoniwase, University of Rwanda College of Agriculture, Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, Rwanda To learn more about the program, click here.
