Take the Penrose Quiz!

Can you solve this brain teaser?

Answers:

  1. The Penrose is a passive drain.
  2. Passive drains. Example: the Jackson-Pratt drain, or "grenade" drain.
  3. It exits both ventrally and dorsally. A Penrose drain works by gravity, i.e. fluids leak along the drain, following the path of least resistance.
  4. It should only exit ventrally.
  5. Ideally, it should be bandaged, to decrease the risk of ascending infection.
