USDA grants Zoetis' Vanguard Rapid Resp one-year DOIDecember 19, 2017The USDA has granted Zoetis' Vanguard Rapid Resp intranasal vaccine line one-year duration of immunity (DOI) claims for Bordetella bronchiseptica, canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2), and canine parainfluenza virus (CPiV). Vanguard Rapid Resp is the first and only intranasal vaccine line in the US that has been demonstrated to provide one year of protection against three important canine infectious respiratory diseases (CIRD), according to the company. Zoetis accepting research grant proposals on controlling parasitic diseaseDecember 1, 2017Zoetis is accepting grant proposals for research into innovative approaches to help protect dogs, cattle, sheep, and poultry from parasitic diseases and to extend the efficacy of therapeutics through new formulations. Through a grant awards program, Zoetis will award a minimum of $25,000 and maximum of $150,000 to support each selected grant proposal. More than one grant may be awarded. "We at Zoetis are interested in advancing novel approaches to protect animals from parasitic diseases, to improve the health and productivity of livestock animals and to help companion animals live longer, healthier lives," said Debra Woods, Ph.D., research director, head of Parasitology Global Therapeutics Research for Zoetis. "Through this grant program, we aim to energize investigation into anti-parasitic therapeutics research and advance science in this area of high need in animal health." Kansas State University expands joint DVM training program with ChinaNovember 3, 2017A program initiated by Kansas State University that helps students from China earn veterinary medical degrees in the U.S. is increasing the number of students it serves. A memorandum-of-understanding signing ceremony was conducted Oct. 19 in Beijing, China, expanding the U.S.-China Joint Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship Program, which was initiated in 2012 by the U.S.-China Center for Animal Health at Kansas State University, along with the China Agricultural University and Chinese Veterinary Medical Association. The joint program has been sponsored by China Scholarship Council, Kansas State University, Zoetis and the International Veterinary Collaboration for China. Zoetis originally provided funding to the program for 30 students' pre-veterinary tuition and related activities. The China Scholarship Council has provided full-ride scholarships for four years of DVM tuition and five years for living stipends. Kansas State University has sponsored the program by providing program management service and additional scholarships. Under the new agreement, Zoetis will continue to support the program by providing pre-veterinary tuition funding for an additional 15 students with Kansas State University and the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association. Recipients of the 2018 Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Award will receive $2,000 for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. Interested students can apply at VETVANCE, a free online resource for veterinary students and recent graduates. The application period is from now through Nov. 30. Eligibility criteria Awards are given based on academic excellence, financial need, diversity, sustainability, leadership, and career interest.
