Embrace Pet Insurance launches scholarship for veterinary technician studentsApril 12, 2019Embrace Pet Insurance is awarding three veterinary technician students $1,000 scholarships as part of its Veterinary Technician Student Scholarship Program for the 2019-2020 school year. "Embrace is thrilled to be supporting the veterinary community by offering these scholarships," says its director of claims, Jenna Mahan, RVT. "The impact veterinary technicians have on the health and well-being of our pets can't be overstated. Our hope is each scholarship gets a lucky student closer to their goal of a career as a veterinary technician." To qualify, students must: • be 18 years of age or older; • be a U.S. citizen; • have a GPA greater than 3.0; and • be enrolled in a veterinary technician program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Students must submit a 500-word essay on why they want to work in the veterinary industry and how their work will make a difference for the pet population in their area. Recent transcripts and proof of the student's enrollment in an accredited veterinary technician program are also required. Walkin' Pets accepting veterinary scholarship applicationsFebruary 6, 2019Walkin' Pets' scholarship program is now open for submissions from students in veterinary programs. A $1,000 scholarship is being offered for doctoral veterinary students, and a $500 rehab/veterinary technician scholarship is being offered for canine rehabilitation and/or veterinary tech students. Students interested in applying must be full-time doctoral students entering, or enrolled in, the 2019 academic year at an accredited veterinary school. Those who are interested in the rehab/veterinary technician scholarship must be enrolled in a full-time canine rehabilitation or veterinary tech program for the 2019 academic year. The application period for both scholarships is open from now to July 31. Scholarship recipients will be notified by Sept. 1. Zoetis scholarship award program passes $6M markMarch 23, 2018Zoetis and the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) announced the awarding of $630,000 in scholarship funds through the Zoetis Veterinary Student Scholarship Program for 2018. Now in its ninth year, the program awarded scholarships in the amount of $2,000 to 315 second- and third-year veterinary students representing 33 colleges of veterinary medicine. The program has awarded $6.1 million over the past nine years, helping to offset education expenses for more than 3,000 veterinary students. Lizann Guzman, a student enrolled in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Calif., said the award made a significant impact on her educational experience. After not being accepted to the veterinary college in her home state, Guzman faced a difficult financial choice. "One of the hardest decisions of my life was moving out to California for vet school, knowing that I would be in so much more debt than if I waited a year to reapply in-state," said Guzman, who will graduate in 2019.
