Covetrus launches as newly formed companyFebruary 8, 2019Henry Schein Animal Health and Vets First Choice, two unique and complementary businesses in the animal-health industry, have combined to form Covetrus. Under the newly formed company, Covetrus says it will provide veterinary practices with a more comprehensive set of integrated services and technology solutions, tools to strengthen client relationships and growth, and improved workflow and cost-effectiveness through efficient delivery of next-generation solutions. The new company will trade under the NASDAQ stock market under the symbol CVET. "[This] marks an important new chapter in the world of veterinary medicine, as we launch Covetrus as a new company listed on NASDAQ," says Benjamin Shaw, president and chief executive officer. "We look forward to strengthening our customer relationships and expanding our veterinary practice partnerships worldwide, as we bring more comprehensive and powerful solutions to market to meet their evolving needs and improve health and financial outcomes." As part of the spin-off, Henry Schein received approximately $1.1 billion in what is expected to be tax-free proceeds that will be used to pay debt.

AVDA recognizes Kim Allen with Lifetime Achievement AwardMay 25, 2018Kim Allen, president of Henry Schein Animal Health's commercial division, has been honored with the American Veterinary Distributors Association's (AVDA) 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award. Allen, who has worked in the veterinary distribution industry for more than 36 years, was the first woman to join the AVDA board of directors, serving from 1990 to 2005 and as chair from 2001 to 2004. "Kim's dedication and service to the animal health industry and distribution for more than 36 years is truly remarkable," said Paula Brown, AVDA chair. "She was a role model and mentor for me and many other women in the industry. Her support of AVDA as a board member and first woman chair was groundbreaking and helped to make the association better for all of our members." Allen, who received her bachelor of science in animal science from Rutgers University, joined Henry Schein in 2005. Prior to that, she worked in various senior executive positions in the veterinary distribution industry, including president of Burns Veterinary Supply for the Darby Group Companies. Henry Schein opens 2018 VetSummit registrationMay 1, 2018Henry Schein Inc. has opened registration for its 2018 VetSummit, a three-day conference designed to help veterinarians run better businesses. Henry Schein to spin off animal health businessApril 23, 2018Henry Schein Inc. announced today that it will spin off its $3.5 billion animal health supplies business, Henry Schein Animal Health (HSAH), and combine it with Vets First Choice. The new publicly traded company, Vets First Corp., will be headquartered in Portland, Maine, where Vets First Choice is located currently. The deal combines Henry Schein's veterinary supplies, software for practices and distribution network with Vets First Choice's prescription management platform. Ben Shaw, founder and CEO of Vets First Choice, will become chairman of the board and CEO of the new company. Stanley Bergman, chairman of the board and CEO of Henry Schein, will be a Vets First Choice board member and continue in his role as CEO and chairman of Henry Schein. Karen Prange, executive vice president of Henry Schein Inc. and CEO of the global animal health, medical and dental surgical group, will leave the company. Henry Schein supports CSU sports medicine and rehabilitation veterinarianMarch 13, 2018Henry Schein Inc. announced its support of a three-year residency position with the Small Animal Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation service at the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Colorado State University. The company's donation of health care supplies supports Ilan Frank, DVM, a second-year resident with the service. The Small Animal Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation team provides nonsurgical orthopedic care to sporting, hunting, working, and service animals, as well as pets with mobility issues. The veterinarians on the team use innovative imaging techniques, medical treatments, and rehabilitation to help animals regain strength, speed, and endurance after an injury. The donation is an initiative of Henry Schein Animal Health, Henry Schein Medical, and Henry Schein Cares, the company's global corporate social responsibility program. As a veterinarian in the Israeli Army, Dr. Frank helped to establish the veterinary services of the Army's Special Operations and served as the chief veterinarian of its K9 unit for 15 years. Dr. Mogens Hansen receives 2017 Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community Service AwardOctober 3, 2017Dr. Mogens Hansen, champion of global animal health and rabies vaccination programs, has received the fifth annual Henry Schein Cares International Veterinary Community Service Award. The Danish Small Animal Veterinary Association (DSAVA) nominated him in recognition for his long-standing involvement in animal welfare in developing countries. He received the award at the World Small Animal Veterinary Association World Congress 2017 in Copenhagen. Besides running his own small animal clinic in Denmark, since 2006 Dr. Hansen has participated in more than 15 animal birth control and rabies vaccination programs for stray dogs in India and Thailand. Vets Beyond Borders Denmark aims to neuter and vaccinate at least 70 percent of the street dog population in a particular area and ensure a local caregiver feeds the animals. Vets Beyond Borders Denmark has neutered and vaccinated more than 10,000 dogs and cats around the world. Hansen also supports a range of animal welfare projects in Central America, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Asia.
