Tips on surgical instrument inspection

Surgical instrument inspection, also often referred to as instrument care and handling, begins at the point of use.

Lubricate instruments

All hinged surgical instruments need occasional lubrication. Either a spray-on or machine-applied lubrication works. Neutral pH lubricants are recommended as steam cannot penetrate mineral-based lubricants. Additionally, read the product label and ensure the lubricant you are using is safe for "use on surgical instruments."
