A New York fashion event for pets will include its first-ever wheelchair pit bull. Rescue dog Effie Brown has been selected to represent all handicapped dogs at the New York Pet Fashion Show in her Walkin’ Wheels Wheelchair. “We are all amazed at Effie’s progress, which is thanks to her heroic spirit and the support of Handicapped Pets,” said Monica Brown of Apollo Support and Rescue (ASR). “Their team helped us select the best wheelchair for her weight and height, and more importantly, went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed to give her the best quality of life possible. Effie is more mobile now and even wagged her tail for the first time a few weeks ago! She certainly wouldn’t be walking a huge fashion show without the help of her wheels.” Handicapped Pets is sponsoring Effie and Brown’s trip from Texas to New York. Along the way, Brown will also bring six other rescue dogs to their new homes. The annual New York Pet Fashion Show is an animal rescue benefit with a portion of the proceeds supporting the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, an organization dedicated to providing homes and a higher quality of life to companion animals. The event takes place Feb. 7 at Hotel Pennsylvania.
