The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Department of the Interior (DOI) have released the first National One Health Framework to Address Zoonotic Diseases and Advance Public Health Preparedness in the United States. This initiative emphasizes the interconnected health of humans, animals, and the environment, addressing shared threats, such as COVID-19, mpox, avian influenza, and Ebola. Mandated by Congress through the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act, the framework outlines a collaborative, multisectoral approach to tackling zoonotic diseases and enhancing preparedness for future health crises. In the next five years, it will guide coordination among federal agencies, unifying their efforts to protect public, domestic animal, wildlife, and environmental health.
