Diamond Pet Foods has entered the veterinary sector with the introduction today of a diet formulated to support kidney health. The veterinary-exclusive Diamond Care Rx Renal Formula for adult dogs is among five new functional diets released by the Meta, Mo., company. The kidney formula, available in 8- and 25-pound bags, contains brown rice, chicken fat and egg protein as well as controlled levels of phosphorus and sodium. “It is commonly said that pets are living longer than ever, thanks to enhanced veterinary care and excellent nutrition,” said Alpharetta, Ga., veterinarian Alex Bradley, DVM, speaking on behalf of Diamond. “As pets age, they are more likely to be diagnosed with conditions such as chronic kidney disease.” The other four Diamond Care recipes, sold at pet stores nationwide, target weight, skin or stomach issues in adult dogs and weight management in adult cats. The Sensitive Stomach formula is made with potatoes and eggs, while grain-free Sensitive Skin uses salmon for protein. The Diamond Care line joins three other consumer brands: Diamond, Diamond Naturals and Diamond Naturals Grain-Free.
