Sutures can go full thickness, but the colon easily separates into two layers, which can be sutured separately (serosa and muscularis; submucosa and mucosa). 2) A synthetic, absorbable, monofilament suture. A blunt needle. 3) A simple, appositioning, continuous suture is now recommended (one or two layers). An inverting or everting suture pattern is unacceptable. Simple interrupted sutures are not recommended anymore.
