With the distinction, the ancient Italian breed can vie for “best in show” at many U.S. dog shows, including the Westminster Kennel Club, within the Sporting Group. Among the oldest of the pointing breeds, the bracco Italiano is one of two native gundogs from Italy and has a history reaching back to the fourth or fifth century. Considered loyal, affectionate, and playful, the breed was first introduced in the U.S. in the 1990s. “We at the AKC are thrilled to welcome our 200th breed to the registry,” says AKC’s executive secretary, Gina DiNardo. “The bracco Italiano is a strong, active, and sturdy breed of dog that would make a great companion for active families. The breed loves people and would be best suited for a family that can give it the love and attention it needs.” For more, click here.
