So any of us who have email are familiar with the word “spam,” although I’m not certain where we came to identify this “meat” product with unwanted emails … a mystery. Regardless, we have learned that spam is something we don’t want, and is potentially dangerous to the unassuming public. So if we all know this, how come we continue to be inundated with unwanted spam emails? Must be that someone, somewhere, is still gullible enough to believe … and that’s all it takes. For example, for quite a while I was barraged by emails regarding, well, methods to "increase the male delivering power” for lack of a more appropriate term. Of course that may have not appealed to me personally, but what if I was a man looking for the “magic wand” to increase my virility? Given the amount of emails I received, I’m thinking that someone must have taken these companies up on their offer, or they wouldn’t be so persistent in repeating the email push. Now, those emails have all but disappeared, and instead I’m hearing from a whole bunch of well-known celebrities claiming weight loss miracles. Now, having always had issues with my weight, these were a little more appealing when they first came out. However, also with my continued issues I’ve learned the hard way that again, there is no “magic wand” for making the weight come off … it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice, of chocolate in particular. But again, these emails must be getting some responses or why would they continue to come? My point is, we all have some issue, problem, or desire that could lead us to pursuing a path that we may know deep in our heart won’t be the right way to go, but our desire pushes us forward because we WANT it so much. While others are benefiting monetarily from these email campaigns, for those of us in the know it’s just frustrating that people get led down this “yellow brick road” which ends at the doorstep of the Wicked Witch of the West rather than the Wizard of Oz. The lesson here is to realize that while there may be no Wizard behind the curtain, WE are our own powerful force to achieve and accomplish what we most want out of life, whether that’s obtaining our VTS certification, moving into that coveted position of management, or simply wanting to make a difference every day in the lives of pets and those who love them. We hold the power to make the difference, so instead of getting hooked on miracle schemes that promise the world, go grab the world by the horns, so to speak, and make your miracles happen! After all, what the Great All-Knowing Oz did for that Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion was simply to show them that they had the power all along, they just had to believe. Click your heels, and find your dream!
