Glen Hoffsis, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVIM, the founding dean of the two-year-old Lincoln Memorial University College of Veterinary Medicine, will step down July 1. His replacement, the university announced today, will be associate dean Jason Johnson, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACT, who oversees DeBusk Veterinary Teaching Center. Dr. Hoffsis, 75, greeted the college’s inaugural class in August 2014 after serving as dean at two long-established institutions: Ohio State University and the University of Florida. “As the nation’s only three-time veterinary dean … he had a mountain of experience to draw on,” said Lincoln Memorial’s president, B. James Dawson, MA, Ed.D. “Glen would probably argue with me and say that a college is never truly established, but this college is now on a solid foundation,” Dawson added. “It has provisional accreditation by the AVMA, a strong enrollment and facilities that rival virtually any other college of veterinary medicine.” Hoffsis will assist in the leadership transition and become “a permanent consultant moving forward,” college spokeswoman Summer Martin said. Dawson described Johnson as a “rising star” in veterinary education. “[He] has been an integral part of the foundation of the LMU College of Veterinary Medicine, so it is fitting that the torch is passing to him,” Dawson said. Johnson, a 2003 graduate of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, was a mixed-animal practitioner in Alabama before he was hired as an assistant professor of theriogenology at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He joined Lincoln Memorial as a founding faculty member in late 2012 and was promoted to associate dean of clinical sciences at the Harrogate, Tenn., college in October 2015.
