June 18 marks the second annual Veterinarian Appreciation Day, created last year by Seattle-based pet insurance company, Trupanion. Why did they create this special day? According to the Trupanion website: “A veterinarian's work is hard. These pet-passionate individuals often get into veterinary medicine with the goal to help as many animals as they can. They speak for those who can’t speak — not in our language at least — and solve medical quandaries without being able to ask, ‘where does it hurt?’ They offer compassion, advice, and care. They sometimes provide discounts and services to our pets when we can’t afford their care, like Dr. Andy Rollo of Madison Veterinary Hospital did to save a puppy abandoned in a garbage can in below-freezing temperatures.” Trupanion is asking calling on pet owners to says thanks through social media, using the hashtag #ThankAVeterinarian and to tag their veterinarian too. The photos will also be posted on Trupanion’s website.
