Midwestern University CVM receives AVMA accreditation

The college achieved the status after completing a five-year-long process

Arizona's first veterinary college to offer the doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree has been recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

The Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) received full accreditation from AVMA's council on education.

The school achieved the status through a five-year-long process. Over that time, it performed self-studies and hosted several center of excellence (COE) site visits by the AVMA to help monitor the college's adherence to its standards.

"It is an incredibly good feeling to accomplish something this difficult," said the CVM's dean, Thomas K. Graves, DVM, PhD, DACVIM.

"It was a true team effort and a very rewarding one. We look forward to continuing our growth with a full focus on program quality."

AVMA accreditation certifies an institution is compliant with the association's regulations in various categories, including finances, facilities, clinical resources, and curriculum.

Midwestern's CVM is the 29th institution in the U.S. to receive this status from AVMA.
