Trips to the veterinarian are not particularly my dog Oreo’s favorite thing to do. Thankfully, in her 11 years, she had not gone for anything serious. Once, we had to go for a checkup after a three-day bout with a cough, and her X-ray showed she had fluid in her lungs. The veterinarian had Oreo take antibiotics for two weeks to solve the problem, and my senior dog was back on her feet in no time. That was Oreo’s first time undergoing an X-ray, which to me remains my dog’s most eventful trip to the vet. However, seeing this year’s entries to the They Ate What?! contest, I see it was not as eventful as I thought. Apparently, there are far more interesting, er, mind-boggling matters radiographs can reveal! Cases in point: cute ornaments, hard-rock objects, and kitchen tools, to name a few. As they say, seeing is believing. Check out these rads and tales from veterinarians, ranked by our team of judges, from amusing to amusingly absurd. This year’s winner received a $500 VISA gift card from contest sponsor Sedecal, and has their case immortalized on these pages.
